James Rixner A.S.I.D Principal Designer
James Rixner's interiors epitomize refinement, elegance, serenity, and suitability. Equally comfortable
working with antiques, chic mid-century furniture, or up to the minute contemporary pieces, his
projects span many styles and time frames. Known for details rather than a rubber-stamp look, he
believes in working the client's needs and preferences as well as following the architecture of a home.
In the over 20 years of operating his own studio, Rixner has designed numerous high-end private
residences, corporate headquarters and commercial spaces. He is a four-year alumnus of the prestigious
Kips Bay Show House. His work was featured in the Tomes-Higgins Show House in Greenwich,
Connecticut, and the Coe Hall Show House in Oyster Bay, Long Island, the Hampton Designer Show
House, as well as the recent Show House at the Aldyn in Manhattan done in conjunction with Fashion
Designer Josie Natori. He was also published in three monographs: "East Coast Rooms" by Anna
Kasabian, "Show Houses: Signature Design Styles" by Stuchin and Abramson, and "Inspired High End
Design" by Shane Reilly.
In addition, his projects have been shown in Elle Décor, Gotham Magazine, House and Garden, New York
Living, New York Spaces, The New York Times Magazine, New York Times House and Home Section as
well as in Traditional Home. Mr. Rixner's Kips Bay "Midcentury Modern Sitting Room" 2007 was used as
a national advertisement for Stark Carpet, appearing in all major design and architecture publications
such as Architectural Digest, Interior Design and Metropolitan Home.
Mr. Rixner is a professional member ASID, an NCIDQ certificate holder and also holds a New York
State license as Certified Interior Designer. Former positions include the interior design divisions of
Bloomingdale's, HLW Architects and Hinson & Company. He has also served as an instructor at Parson's
School of Design and holds a masters degree in urban design from the University of Pittsburgh.
