“Interior designer James Rixner initially studied architecture and then came to New York with a Masters in Urban Design. He originally worked on a project studying the effects of urban design on mass transit, studying things like the effects of incorporating a subway entrance to a building. So far, so interesting but after three years he realized that urban design was too political, too slow and that he would “never, ever see any of the designs brought to life—never.” And that was that. He’s had his share of New York-type modeling and bar tending jobs but since then his designs have been brought to life in many, many homes, his experience gained by way of jobs at Bloomingdale’s in its heyday, working for Harry Hinson and the Park Avenue architecture firm HLW until he eventually went solo.”

“Interior Designer James Rixner, an architectural aficionado, came to New York with a Master’s Degree in Urban Design. His interiors epitomize refinement, elegance, serenity, and suitability. Equally comfortable working with antiques, chic mid-century furniture, or up to the minute contemporary pieces, his projects span many styles and time frames.”

James Rixner‘s dramatic table for Saint-Louis and Puiforcat was stunning in its height as well as tabletop. I loved seeing one of my favorite Hermes patterns, the Balcon du Guadalquivir in the black version for a change. It looked so smart against the Chevron presentation plates. And the black and white with the red of the napkins and Excess glasses Hervé van der Straeten designed for Saint-Louis echoed what I had recently seen at fashion week.”
