CHELSEA MERCANTILE LOFT

This loft apartment in the iconic Chelsea Mercantile features grand proportions in all the rooms, especially in the Living Room.  However, large rooms can sometimes be a design challenge. To meet this challenge I created a  welcoming space within the larger room by floating the furniture in the space. This allows for a more intimate conversation area and defines the seating area from the dining area and adjacent open kitchen.  The two Tuxedo sofas are upholstered in Kravet mohair velvet and a mid-century floor lamp is a dramatic accent between the two pieces. The cantilevered leather bench is a vintage piece from Cumberland furniture.  A silk rug from Tibetano anchors the area. A Rhulman-inspired rosewood dining table is paired with leather dining chairs in the dining area. The chandelier is vintage Tommi Parzinger and is from the same collection as the Parzinger floor lamp in the adjacent Living Room.

In the primary bedroom, a pair of vintage French art deco dressers is perfectly scaled for the room. They were discovered in an antique dealer's storage room and brought to life by a master restorer who finished the handles in a white gold leaf finish. This attention to detail is an important element in all my projects.
